Trials published in the British Medical Journal in August 2008

In the summer of 2008, the British Medical Journal published the results of a randomised controlled trial of Alexander Technique lessons. This research showed that individual lessons in the Alexander Technique can have a long-term beneficial effect on patients with chronic or recurrent non-specific back pain.

The survey used 579 patients from 64 GP practices. 59 Alexander Technique teachers were allocated at random to some of these patients while control groups received either massage, GP prescribed exercise or GP normal care.

Those patients who received Alexander Techniequ lesson showed greater improvements in function, quality of life reduction of days in pain, than any other group.
